Helping Local Communities take ActionSanctuary programs for conservation education, health and sanitation, and economic development are helping to improve the lives of the people, and to protect the forest for the future.
Bringing resources to the task Ape Action Africa provides teachers and materials to local schools, hosts a Nature Club in the capital city and "field trips" to bring children into the forest that is their natural heritage. They deliver polio vaccines and build latrines, and bring clean water to the area. Fostering local development With encouragement and support form the sanctuary, local communities have formed a development collaborative, where a range of activities generates revenue directly for the communities. Ape Action Africa provides a venue for traditional dance performances, a market for artisan goods, and purchases vegetables from collective farms. That's in addition to being the largest employer in the area, with nearly 50 local staff. |
Us, too!For those of us in the rest of the world, in the "consumer" nations, that very consumer activity is a powerful opportunity to make a significant impact for good.
We help save animals and people every time we support a great project, or spread the word, or make easy every-day smart choices. Try one of these great ideas or add your own. |
